The Rockford Park District is hosting an event that is making good use of last week's snowfall.
The 29th annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition is taking place in Sinnissippi Park from today until Saturday.
Twelve teams made up of three members are competing. Each team is given a 10-foot block of snow. No power tools, props or coloring equipment is allowed.
The teams have until 10 .m. Saturday to complete their work. The winning team will go on to compete at next year's national competition.
"We've got the beautiful background of Sinnissippi Park, the snow and the trees. It really makes for a beautiful setting and I think peopel will not be disappointed if they come out," says John Beck, director of the Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition.
This is one of hte only competitions in the U.S. that includes a high school bracket. Fifteen high school teams will also compete.
