ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Winnebago won the Forreston Touranment for the sixth time, and second in the last three years, topping their Big Northern rivals Byron, 52-48. It's been an emotional week for Winnebago athletics following the death of Don Rose, Class of '64 and lifelong Indians superfan.
Auburn continued their dominance of the NIC-10, maintaining their perfect record on the season by lighting up the scoreboard on Friday, 110-54 over Belvidere North. The Knights hit 18 three-pointers and were paced by future NIU Huskie Laytwan Porter's 23 points.
Hononegah got the best of Boylan, beating the Titans 42-38 Friday night. The Indians built a 33-16 lead going into the 4th quarter behind the high-flying antics of Garrett Schweighauser, but the Titans began to rally with some big threes to pull to within 40-38. Boylan got a last chance possession to take the lead, but a late three fell short, and the Indians hit two free throws to seal the victory over their NIC-10 rivals.
