Cyber Monday may now be Cyber Week

Cyber Monday is in full swing. Not that you couldn't tell by the number of stores emailing you lately about special deals. Despite slower sales expected for Cyber Monday it still should be the biggest online shopping day of the year.

The tap of the keys, the click of the mouse are all music to retailers' ears.

"Generally its a promotion in online sales is the whole idea of Cyber Monday," says Michael Lancaster, Bisconti Computers.

The holiday tradition of cyber deals is expected to last beyond just one day some are already calling this Cyber Week.

That's because retailers did not do as well on Black Friday as hoped. So they need to make up for it. The national retail federation found a number of people stayed home seven million people decided to do something other than buy this Black Friday. And those who did shop spent on average $26 less per person.

If you are shopping online there are some Dos and Don'ts to lessen your risk of fraud.

"Stay with name brand companies, you get a big box store like Target, Wal-mart," says Lancaster.

That doesn't mean you can't shop small or local.

"The best thing to do honestly is either use your credit card instead of your debit card or use PayPal. PayPal will always open up a case if you have a discrepancy," says Lancaster.

And you can find where to go online.

"Jump on Google and just type in what you are looking for and it will give you a miles radius when you click the shopping and just search for within 15 miles of your home. Also Amazon will give you the same thing. It doesn't guarantee that it will be in your local store it just means your local store is also selling it," says Lancaster.

Plus, if you don't want to overspend suggests be like Santa have a plan.

"The best thing to do is to make a list cause some of the prices are so good it might create impulse buys," says Brent Sheldon,

One retail advisory group says in the past procrastination has paid off with people getting the better deal by waiting. But they suggest don't wait too long if you want it for Christmas so you can take advantage of the free shipping deals.
