Local soldier surprises kids at school for Thanksgiving

A local military family is especially thankful this week, as a member of their family returns home from deployment just in time for the holidays.

Drew and Brock Nelson's dad, Sergeant Andrew Nelson, has been serving in Qatar for the past 10 months.

Nelson has been serving as a food inspector for the army.

"He wants to be in the army so he can take care of us more," Drew Nelson, Sergeant Andrew Nelson's daughter said.

But today, he surprised them during a fake Skype session during their class, by showing up mid-conversation a month early.

"It made my day. It made my year. It made it all worth it. They are happy that I did it and not mad that I was gone, and they are proud of me."

Nelson's kids say the first thing they want to do with dad is cook.

And one thing's for sure, distance hasn't changed these kids' love for their favorite sergeant.

"I love him 2000 times infinity," Drew Nelson said.
