A Freeport pantry needs more donations to stay open

FREEPORT (WREX) -
"We pray for more food."
That is what one local pantry has posted on its building after closing its doors due to a lack of donations.
The Freeport food pantry ran out of food last Friday.
The donation-based pantry is run by the Freeport Area Church Co-op.
It hands out bags of non-perishable items to Freeport residents in emergency situations.
These bags are intended to last them a week. Since closing, the pantry has seen an up tick in donations.
Organizers hope that trend will continue, so they won't have to turn more people away.
"It's heartbreaking to hear the stories of people that are really dependent because they are out of food," Executive Director of Freeport Area Church Cooperative, Dean Wright, said.
The pantry is hoping to open again on Monday.
If you want to donate, the pantry is located on 514 S. Chicago Avenue in Freeport. They are accepting any food that is non-perishable. Their hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
