Miss Illinois encourages students to follow their dreams
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Miss Illinois comes to Rockford to speak with students about pursuing their dreams Marisa Buchheit.
Buchheit was at Keith Country Day School Friday as part of Red Ribbon Week.
It's a week long initiative in the schools to encourage kids to lead healthy, productive lives by staying out of trouble.
Buchheit is an aspiring professional opera singer. She sang to the students and told them they can achieve their dreams if they set their minds to it.
"I'm big on pursuing your passions," said Buchheit. "I'm training to be a professional opera singer and that's one of the things I always want to leave the kids with, the idea that they can set a goal and achieve it."
Red Ribbon activities continue into the weekend at several Rockford Schools.
