Rockford man to run 'ultra megathon' to raise money for charity

Every year for the past two decades, a Rockford man runs his age in miles for charity. That annual race is this weekend, but it will look a little different this year.

At 66 years old, Tom Clinton is running an ultra megathon for First Love International Ministries. That's 66 miles total of running, biking, swimming, canoeing and wheelchair racing.

Clinton has raised more than $1 million for First Love International since starting his annual marathon race. This year, he hopes to raise $107,000 by race day, which is this Saturday.

And while the race has a different look this year, he says it's for a good reason.

"I didn't want to drop dead someday on the bike path and have people come up to my wife and say, 'We told him not to do this anymore.' And so then she'd feel really bad about me dying but then embarrassed about people coming up and talking to her about her crazy husband."

The money raised will help poor women and children across the world.
