Rockford police warn of home repairs scam

Rockford Police warn the community about a home repair fraud happening around the city.

The suspects involved in the scam typically target elderly victims with unsolicited offers to complete repairs of chimneys or roofs. The suspects claim that they have worked for the victims in the past or are affiliated with legitimate contractors who have completed work for the victims. The suspects usually demand payment in advance or payment after completing superficial work on the victim's home.

Suspects have been described as a Hispanic male in his late 40s or early 50s, a Hispanic male in his late 20s, and a white or Hispanic female in her mid to late 30s.

The suspects have been seen driving a dark colored older model SUV, a dark colored 4-door car, and a light colored minivan.

Residents should be suspicious of any type of unsolicited repair offers. Officials ask anyone with information to call the Rockford Police Department at 987-5824 or Crime Stoppers 963-7867.
