Belvidere North, North Boone ready for 2014 season

BOONE COUNTY (WREX) -  The high school football season is a little more than a week away, and a couple of Boone County teams are ready for the action.

Belvidere North hopes to contend for a NIC-10 title this year. They made the playoffs last year, and even gave Boylan a run for its money in their regular season matchup. The Blue Thunder looks for more success with a lot of players back.

"Obviously we have a lot of experienced kids," Belvidere North head coach Jeff Beck said. "Teams around the conference, teams around the area know that we're returning a lot of starters. So it's nice to have that experience. Our group of seniors is great."

Belvidere North opens its season against its crosstown rivals from Belvidere.

A little farther north in Boone County, North Boone looks to return to its form from two years ago after missing the playoffs last year.

The Vikings have a strong group of returning players as well, so they look forward to seeing how they can produce on the field.

"Just the excitement, we have a lot of kids competing for spots" North Boone coach Aaron Sullivan said. "So that's really helped our practices and like I said, we're just excited to get the season going and start hitting somebody else."

North Boone gets the chance to hit Clinton High School from Wisconsin in week one.
