Home Depot teams up to build local veteran a home

In positive local news, the city of Rockford and Winnebago County are celebrating with Home Depot after collaborating to make a veteran's dream of a home come true.

It's being called a celebration of service, and it's part of Home Depot's mission to provide homes for homeless and disabled veterans.

Anthony Birdwell and his family are now first-time home owners thanks to the program.

Birdwell recently learned he could no longer serve our country after he was diagnosed with a tumor on his spine.

He says this gift is nothing short of a miracle.

Home Depot has even bigger plans for this particular project. The company has already signed on with a film company to produce a documentary about the making of the home.
