Grant to help expand oral health program for seniors

The Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging has been awarded a grant of $35,000 that will go toward expanding a program that provides oral health for seniors and disabled residents.

The grant comes from the Dr. Louis and Violet Rubin Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois and will expand the program for residents in Boone, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago counties.

Residents will have access to a collaborative system that will offer education and awareness, as well as financial assistance to help pay for needed oral health care they cannot otherwise afford.

Over the past three years, the Winnebago County Senior Oral health Coalition has used funding provided by NIAAA to provide oral health care services to more than 250 senior citizens.

The coalition is a collaboration of Rockford Health Council, the Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging, Crusader Community Health, Presence Health, Lifescape Community Services and teh Rock Valley College dental hygiene program.
