A vacant women's residence hall at Rockford University will finally be taken down.
The seven story McGaw Hall was built in 1969 but was vacated 10 years ago after it was determined the space was not needed and that bringing the building code would be cost prohibitive.
However, university officials say two-thirds of the building will remain on campus.
"We're going to be putting it inside our abandoned swimming pool that we are creating a second multi-use gym in our Seaver Physical Education Center," says Matthew Phillips, vice president of operations.
Demolition is underway on the inside of the building with the project taking about six weeks to complete.
