The first ever "Cardinal Pride Day" brings parents, students and staff together to spruce up an area school district's campuses.
Jon Mickle, the Director of Buildings and Grounds Director for Meridian CUSD 223 in Stillman Valley, said, "This is a community stepping up to help make the schools look great for the start of the school year."
Dozens of volunteers worked all day Thursday to do yard work and maintenance on school buildings and sheds.
"Our students and community deserve to return to schools that have immaculate facilities," said Mickle. "As a result of the district wide budget reductions there are some jobs that we needed help to complete."
Some of the projects included flower bed preparation at Highland, Monroe Center, Meridian Junior High and SVHS. Concessions stand painting, repairing wooden benches and field prep at Cardinal Fields. Storage shed painting and door replacement at SVHS.
