Branden Cogswell, who is batting .154 on the season, delivered the game-winning RBI in the 11th inning as he drove Luis Baez home from second base.
Both teams had a plethora of chances throughout the game to take the lead, but a multitude of missed opportunities sent the game to eleven innings. Peoria and Beloit combined to hit 3-for-21 with runners in scoring position and stranded a total of 18 men on base.
Joel Seddon picked up his second win of the season, as he recorded two innings on the mound (2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB) to close out the ballgame.
The Snappers looked to be off to a hot start from the onset as they put up two runs in the first inning. B.J. Boyd and Matt Chapman both singled before Phil Pohl provided the RBI-single to score Boyd. Beloit tacked on its second run behind a throwing error that allowed Chapman to score.
Beloit couldn't sustain its lead for long though as Peoria evened the game in the top of the second inning.
The Chiefs took a 3-2 lead in the third inning as a sacrifice bunt allowed Vaughn Bryan to advance two bases and reach third base. Chapman fielded the bunt, which left third base open as Junior Mendez failed to cover the bag, and Bryan capitalized on the defensive miscue.
The Snappers didn't record a hit or a baserunner until the 6th inning, snapping a streak of 13 consecutive batters retired. Tyler Marincov provided the game-tying RBI as his single scored B.J. Boyd from second base and tied the game at 3-3.
After two scoreless innings, both teams had great opportunities to break the deadlock in the ninth frame but couldn't convert.
Peoria had runners on second and third base with only one out and struck out twice to end the inning. Beloit proceeded to load the bases off three walks in the bottom of the ninth, but Ryan Mathews lined out into a double play to send the game to extra innings.
Following a quick top of the tenth inning, the Snappers stranded two men on first and second base in the bottom of the frame and the game headed to the eleventh. In the final frame, Luis Baez singled and Josh Ludy’s sacrifice bunt sent him into scoring position.
Cogswell came through with the RBI-single to left field to score Baez and give Beloit the final 4-3 advantage.
The Snappers and Chiefs return to action Thursday night at 7:00 p.m at Pohlman Field for the series rubber match.
