Battle for Illinois governor focuses on job growth
Wednesday, July 16, 2014 11:49 PM EDT
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Who the best person is to grow the Illinois economy is the question many voters will consider when picking the next Governor.
A group of people rallied for Gov. Pat Quinn Wednesday in Rockford, saying he should continue leading job growth in the state.
The crowd gathered in front of the Old Essex Wire plant.
They said the abandoned plant is an example of corporate greed.
"The community is suffering because of greed and millionaires turned politicians like Bruce Rauner and Mitt Romney," said Neal Waltmire from Illinois Freedom, the group responsible for the rally.
In response to the protestors, Rauner said, "They're just making up statements to try to provide a diversion. The fact is Gov Quinn has failed on jobs."
Rauner said the state has lost 23,000 jobs under the Quinn Administration this year.
