Smolinski shines, Rucinski makes MLB debut

A couple of players with Rockford ties met on the baseball diamond in the Majors Thursday night. Boylan grad Jake Smolinski faced off against former Rockford Aviators pitcher Drew Rucinski in the 9th inning of the Rangers vs. Angels game, and Smolinski tagged Rucinski for an RBI double.

However, Rucinski's Angels got the win, 15-6. Rucinski pitched one inning, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out one batter.

Smolinski continues to swing a hot bat for Texas, going 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
