Snappers fall to River Bandits, lose 9th straight

BELOIT (WREX) - The Beloit Snappers wrapped up their seven-game home stand with a 6-3 loss to Quad Cities Thursday night and extended their losing streak to a season-worst nine games.

Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, home runs once again doomed the Snappers as Quad Cities showcased its offensive prowess.

Ronnie Mitchell knocked two home runs in the fifth and six innings to take the lead and provide the necessary insurance runs. Mitchell finished the series with three home runs and now has 12 home runs on the season. Six of Mitchell's 12 homers this year have come at the expense of the Beloit pitching staff.

Beloit has now given up a league-worst 62 home runs on the season. Quad Cities leads the Midwest League in batting average (.272) and ranks third in runs scored (392).

Lou Trivino pitched 5.2 innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs for the Snappers. Kevin Comer picked up the win for the River Bandits as he gave up two earned runs in five innings pitched.

The Snappers travel to Cedar Rapids on Friday before returning home to Pohlman Field next Tuesday to take on the Burlington Bees at 7:00 p.m.
