Clayton battling back from injury after freshman year at Vandy

ROCKTON (WREX) -  Hononegah grad Courtney Clayton had a lot of success during the indoor track season in her freshman year at Vanderbilt. But at the Florida Relays, she pulled her hamstring, suffering a long term injury for the first time in her career.

"In high school I had a couple of injuries like shin splints where I had to take a couple of weeks off but nothing that prevented me from practicing," Clayton said. "I think I've learned a lot from it because I'm not a very patient person. I realized that you can't have everything right away. Injuries are bound to happen. It's just something that every athlete has to go through."

Clayton had some big moments her freshman year, including winning the 800M run the first time she ever ran it in college. Her favorite experience was a big meet in New York.

"I had never experienced something so big," Clayton said. "Everyone was crazy about it. That was definitely my favorite meet."

For now, Clayton is rehabbing her injury, trying to make sure she's ready to go for her second year of college.
