Man sentenced to 90 years in prison for killing Amboy resident

A Northern Illinois man convicted of killing a 79 year-old Amboy man is sentenced to 90 years in prison.
Matthew Welling was convicted by a jury in May of first degree murder and home invasion for the 2012 death of Leroy Daniels.
Welling was sentenced to 60 years for the murder charge and another 30 years for the home invasion that preceded the attack.
He must serve 100% of the 60 years for murder and 85% of the 30 years for Home Invasion. These sentences will be served consecutively.
Lee County States attorney Anna Sacco-Miller expressed her sympathy to the Daniels' family in a news release.“On behalf of everyone involved with the investigation and prosecution of Matthew Welling, please accept our deepest sympathy. We hope the conclusion of this case helps to bring you peace and to help ease your pain. One thing is very clear, Delmar Leroy Daniels will never be forgotten. He is beloved in Amboy, and he will live on in the hearts and memories of many people as a kind and gentle man."
