East hires Gary Griffin as new football coach

ROCKFORD (WREX) - The Rockford School Board approved Gary Griffin as the new head football coach at East High School. Griffin has been the athletic director at Rockford Lutheran since 2010. The Crusaders boys basketball team advanced to the state semifinals this past year, finishing fourth in Peoria.

Griffin's last head coaching stop was at Bay View High School in Milwaukee, where he put together a 27-6 conference record and five trips to the playoffs. He has also served as wide receivers and special teams coach at the University of Dubuque. As a player, Griffin was a two-time All-America defensive back and Defensive Player of the Year at Concordia University.

A press conference will be held at the RPS administration building Wednesday morning to introduce Griffin as the new leader of E-Rabs football.
