Drug arrest made in Rockford Housing Authority property

ROCKFORD (WREX) - A two week narcotics investigation in Rockford leads to arrests at a Housing Authority property.

Police said the investigation was initiated after someone tipped them off to the sale of narcotics at the home in Brewington Oaks on Seminary Street.  On Thursday at 8:30 p.m., officers executed search warrants at the home.  A news release states officers found heroin inside the residence.

Michael L. Howard, 56, of Rockford, was arrested and is awaiting a bond hearing before a federal judge.

“As a result of weekly meetings to reduce and prevent crime, people are stepping forward with information about activity that makes their homes and communities unsafe,” said Ron Clewer, CEO Rockford Housing Authority. “Too often, because of the amount of time quality investigations take, residents feel nothing happens when such concerns are expressed. While I am troubled by this activity, I believe it sends a message to those who do make the effort to come forward. I am thankful to all who were involved in improving our developments."
