Former Patriot Aaron Hernandez indicted in double murder

BOSTON (WREX) - Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez has been indicted on murder charges in a 2012 double shooting in Boston.

Neva Coakley, a spokeswoman for Boston police, confirmed the indictment Thursday. Hernandez is already being held on no bail after pleading not guilty to murder in the unrelated 2013 death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.

In the 2012 double murder, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado were shot as they sat in a car in the South End neighborhood of Boston. Police say the suspect pulled up alongside them in an SUV and opened fire.

A written affidavit from Boston police says there is probable cause to believe Hernandez was driving a vehicle used in the incident and "may have been the shooter."

Lawyers for Hernandez did not immediately respond to messages asking for comment.
