JANESVILLE (WREX) - UPDATED: Janesville police have charged Clayton Courtney with Intentional Homicide in the death of his girlfriend, Britney Cross.

According to police, several witnesses saw Courtney and Cross together in Traxler Park near the dead end of N. Main St. late in the afternoon of May 4th. Several items belonging to Courtney were recovered at the crime scene. Additionally, blood was found on Courtney’s pants when he was arrested on an unrelated matter the evening of May 4th.

Janesville Police announced the Wisconsin State Crime Lab confirmed today that the DNA in the blood found on Courtney’s pants matched Britney Cross’ DNA.

Courtney is scheduled to appear at Jail Intake Court tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

Janesville police say they are now expanding the timeline of their investigation into the actions of Clayton Courtney, due to a new statement by a witness.

During a press conference Monday, police said a witness in the Sunday, May 4 stabbing at 1602 North Pontiac Drive changed their initial statement of what suspect Clayton Courtney said. Originally, police say the witness said Courtney said "I've already killed three people tonight, we're all going to die." However, police say the witness now claims Courtney said, "I've already killed three people, we're all going to die tonight."

During that incident, Courtney allegedly stabbed his roommate, 28-year-old Michael Clark, who suffered a "near fatal" injury, according to doctors. Courtney has been charged with attempted murder in that case.

Due to the change in the placement of the word "tonight," police are expanding the timeline into the Courtney investigation significantly. They're asking the public to call them at 608-755-3100 or CrimeStoppers at 608-756-3636 if they have any additional information.

The body of Courtney's 21-year-old girlfriend, Britney Cross, was found near the Rock River on the morning of Monday, May 5. Her death is being considered a homicide and Courtney has been named a suspect.
