RVC softball earns postseason accolades

The Rock Valley College softball team set a program record for wins a single season with 38 and won the Region IV tournament to advance to the NJCAA tournament for the second straight season.
That sort of success typically leads to some individual awards and that was certainly the case for Rock Valley College this year. The North Central Community College Conference (N4C) All-Conference and NJCAA Region IV All-Region teams were announced and a number of Golden Eagles have received recognition.
Amanda Blankenship was named first team All-Conference and N4C MVP after a stellar season on the mound. She went 17-5 with a 2.22 ERA in 30 games, while striking out 207 hitters in 157 2/3 innings pitched. She was 8-0 in conference play with a 1.38 ERA in 12 games.
Joining Blankenship on the N4C first team were Haley Love and Danielle Walker, while Ashley Brant, Katie Meyer, and Callina Rockey picked up second team honors.
Blankenship and Walker also earned first team All-Region honors and were joined on the first team by teammate Kaytee Keefe. Second team honors were picked up by Brant and Meyer. The All-Tournament team for the Region IV Tournament included four Golden Eagles, Hannah Anderson, Love, Meyer, and Rockey.
RVC head coach Darin Monroe was named Coach of the Year for both the N4C and Region IV for the second year in a row.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Rochester, Minnesota, for the NJCAA national tournament on May 15-17. RVC is seeking to improve upon last year’s sixth place finish at the NJCAA tournament. In RVC’s only other previous NJCAA tournament appearance prior to 2013, they finished in fifth place in 2010.
