NEW YORK (WREX) - The NBA has banned LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life after the league says he made racist comments in a recorded conversation.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Tuesday said Sterling admitted he was the man on the tape. Silver added he will try to force a sale of the team and fined Sterling $2.5 million. That money will be given to organizations dedicated to anti-discrimination and tolerance.

Silver said "We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling's views. They simply have no place in the NBA."

Starting immediately, Sterling will be barred from going to any NBA games or practices, visiting any Clippers office or facility, or participating in any business or player personnel decisions about the team.

Silver called the Clippers' owner's comments "deeply offensive and harmful."
