UPDATED: 14-year-old Chicago girl dead in shooting

A 14-year-old girl has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 14-year-old Endia Martin. The suspect's name will not be released due to her age, but she's scheduled for a detention hearing Monday.

Martin's stepfather, Kent Kennedy, told the Chicago Sun-Times she was not involved with gangs and had never had trouble with police. He described the his stepdaughter's death as "cold-blooded and senseless."

Chicago police a 14-year-old girl is dead and another injured after a fight broke out on a sidewalk on the city's South Side Monday.

Police spokesman Thomas Sweeney said the girl was with a group of other teenagers in the Back of the Yards neighborhood when someone in the group pulled out a gun and began shooting. The girl was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, where she later died. The other victim was shot in the arm and listed in stable condition at another hospital.

No one has been arrested, but police said they were interviewing a person of interest.
