RSO hosts local schools at youth concert

Students from public, private, and parochial students around the region gathered at the Coronado Performing Arts Center Wednesday for the Rockford Symphony Orchestra's annual Youth Concert.

The performance was by invite only and targeted students in the third through fifth grades. Two performances were given with over 3,000 attendees from Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Stephenson, Lee, and McHenry counties.

The RSO partnered with Carnegie Hall's Link UP program for the event. Students studied The Orchestra Sings repertoire throughout the year and even participated in the performance by singing or playing recorder or violin along with the orchestra from their seats.

The performance featured pieces like Beethoven's Ode to Joy, Brackett's Simple Gifts, and Dvorak's New World Symphony.
