Wisconsin Coast Guard officer accused of sexual assault

A U.S. Coast Guard officer from Wisconsin faces tentative charges after accusations he had abusive sexual contact with a female colleague while stationed in Milwaukee in 2013.

Thirty-year-old Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua M. Raymond of Deerfield also faces tentative charges of attempted sexual assault and making false statements. He will undergo an Article 32 hearing, similar to a civilian grand jury hearing.

Coast Guard spokesman Christopher Yaw said the hearing's outcome could result in dropped charges or the start of court-martial proceedings.

Grover Baxley, Raymond's defense attorney, says his client plans to plead not guilty to all charges.

Raymond was assigned to the Lake Michigan facility in Milwaukee but was transferred to Station Grand Haven, Michigan after the investigation.
