Several local libraries get grants from Secretary of State

Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White's office is awarding over $670,000 in grants to 159 libraries around Illinois.

Several local libraries received funding from the "Another Back to Books" grants, which will help them acquire fiction and/or non-fiction books, learning CDs and DVDs, and other educational items.

Libraries applied for the grants, specifying what materials they would purchase with the funds. Examples including women's studies, sociology, health sciences, materials to help veterans transition from military to civilian life, Spanish language items, large-print books, and more.

Some of the local institutions that received funding include:

  • Dixon CUSD #170 - $2,500
  • Julia Hull District Library - $5,000
  • Malta Township Public Library - $4,100
  • North Boone CUSD #200 - $5,000
  • Polo Public Library District - $4,000
  • Rochelle Township High School District #212 - $5,000
  • Sauk Valley Community College - $5,000
  • Sycamore Public Library - $5,000

The grants were supplied by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Illinois State Library.
