13-year-old Aurora boy accused of bringing loaded gun to school

A 13-year-old student at Aurora's Washington Middle School faces charges after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to school.

The boy has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after the gun was found in his locker Monday afternoon. Authorities say a teacher and administrator searched the locker after the teacher noticed a group of students gathering around it. The gun was found in a book bag.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation suggested the student brought the handgun to show friends. It belongs to a relative.

The boy was lodged at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles before a Tuesday status hearing.
