Belvidere man sentenced to 10 years for DUI

A 33-year-old Belvidere man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for driving under the influence.

Adan Avila-Vazquez was sentenced on April 10. He was arrested on August 17, 2013.

Police say they responded to Wynnwood Drive around 9:00 p.m. that night after a homeowner reported a drunk driver passed out behind the wheel in their driveway, with the car running.

Police say Avila-Vazquez was hard to wake up, couldn't balance, had slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol from his person. He also had two outstanding warrants for drunk driving from 2007 and 2008.

Avila-Vazquez was charged with Aggravated DUI, a Class X felony due to having six prior offenses.
