Rockford-area health experts gathered at the University of Illinois' Rockford campus Friday to mark National Public Health Week.
U of I Rockford teamed up with the Winnebago County Health Department and the Rockford Regional office of the Illinois Department of Public Health for an event to highlight local efforts in public health.
Event speakers included the WCHD's Mike Bacon, Mark Hunter with the Rockford Regional Office of the IDPH, and Kathryn Nelson from Dupage Foundation.
The winners of two photo contests, one for students at U of I Rockford and the other for students at Jefferson High School Health Science Academy, were also announced. Photos entered in the contest depicted how public health efforts impact the community.
National Public Health Week began April 7 and runs through April 13.
