The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, have announced the signing of former Cincinnati Reds farmhand, Cole Green, to a one-year deal.
Green joins the Aviators after spending two seasons in the Reds organization where he played for three different teams.
"Cole is a guy who will definitely come in and be one of our starters." said Aviators Manager, James Frisbie.
An All-American at the University of Texas, Green earned All-Big XII Conference honors as a senior and was named to the NCAA Austin Regional Tournament team. He went 19-5 in his final two seasons with the Longhorns, posting a 2.94 ERA while allowing an opponent batting average of just .221.
"Cole had great numbers at Texas," said Frisbie. "We are looking forward to having him in our rotation this season."
Green went 5-1 in two seasons in the Reds' farm system. As a rookie with the Billings Mustangs of the Rookie Pioneer League, Green went 4-1 and posted a 4.24 ERA. He eventually was called up to the Single-A Dayton Dragons where he appeared in 19 games in relief and picked up one win.
Originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 4th round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft, Green decided to remain at the University of Texas for his senior season and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds organization in the 9th round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft.
The Aviators will open the 2014 season Friday, May 16 at home against the River City Rascals at 7:05 p.m. Season ticket packages and advertising information is available by calling 815-885-2255.
