First Energy Solutions, the City of Rockford's electric aggregation supplier, will add a one-time surcharge to May, June, or July bills for customers served under the aggregation agreement.
The charge is regulatory and passed through by PJM Interconnection, the agency responsible for managing the region's electric supply. It was triggered by January's extreme weather, which increased demand and caused problems with supply.
The City of Rockford explained in a statement, "The charge is allowed as a pass through charge in the terms and conditions of the agreement between Rockford customers and First Energy Solutions."
The estimated charge for most residents will be around $5.
