Over 1,000 runners and walkers will lace up their sneakers on April 12 for the 11th Annual Red Shoe Run.
The 5K run/fitness walk will be held at Northern Illinois University in Rockford. The event began in 2004 as a way to raise awareness of the urgent need for organ, tissue, eye, blood, and marrow donors and pay tribute to donors who help save the lives of thousands of patients every day.
Money raised during the run will go toward tissue typing those who wish to join the Rock River Valley Blood Center's Be the Match Marrow Registry.
The 5K run will start at 8:00 a.m., with the walk starting at 8:10 a.m. Pre-registration packets can be picked up at Rock River Valley Blood Center (419 North Sixth Street) on Thursday, April 10, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Friday, April 11, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The first 800 registered will get a t-shirt and prizes are awarded in 17 different age divisions. You can register and learn more at www.redshoerun.org.
