A group of 15 high school students from LaMirada, California have traveled half-way across the country to help the people of Rockford.
The students, from Granada Heights Friends Church, are volunteering at the Rockford Rescue Mission through Wednesday. The teens are helping out with food preparation and meal service as well as in the Men's and Women's Crisis Centers, Life Recovery Programs, and the Mission Thrift Store.
The group says it chose the Rockford Rescue Mission because of its Christian foundation and for the opportunity to work in an urban ministry. During their time there they will eat all meals with Mission guests and a sponsor from the group will speak at the Mission's Wednesday evening chapel service.
