Downtown Rockford features first Meltfest

Posted: Updated:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Downtown Rockford stays busy thanks to a free, family-friendly event.

The Forest City's first Meltfest brings residents downtown Saturday. It signifies the start of spring, with winter melting away. Families ice skate, enjoy a trolley ride, maybe even do some shopping. Plus, the event put on a 5k walk or run and bike ride.

"Rockford has so much to offer, we just wanted to put together a little venue that could show a little bit of that and that's really what Meltfest was supposed to be and is." -says volunteer Brian Huels.

Organizers hoped to draw 2,000 people downtown with this event.
