Mrs. Amanda Schiesher is seeing gold.
"I'm in shock," Washington Academy of Belvidere's, Mrs. Amanda Schiesher, said. "I feel amazing. "This has been such a great experience. Just being nominated alone was such an honor. It's unbelievable."
That's because she was the first to receive the Golden Apple Award for Boone and Winnebago County this year. It's an accomplishment she's been working toward since she was a little girl.
"I remember my parents gave me a little tiny chalkboard one year and I would make my sister sit in front of the chalkboard and I would give her worksheets and I would make her work on them," Schiesher said. "So I've always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was little, so this is just. I'm living my dream."
As an Engineering Technology teacher at Washington Academy in Belvidere, Schiesher works to give her kids a leg up on future educational goals, knowing the importance of technology in today's world.
"It makes them get a step ahead as far as technology," she says. "You know, that's the way our world is going. Everything is technology based and engineering, and if they can get these types of things under their belt, they'll just be a step ahead for either higher education or the workforce, whatever they decide to do."
