LASALLE, Ill. (WREX) -

Two children and a bus driver are hurt after a school bus swerved to avoid hitting a pair of deer on a rural LaSalle County road.

The bus tipped onto its side, resulting in minor injuries for two kids and the driver. Sandwich School District 430 Superintendent Rick Schmitt said the bus was on its way to Lighted Way, a school in LaSalle for students with special needs.

The crash occurred around 8:00 a.m. Friday, with the bus skidding on loose gravel and toppling on its side in a ditch.

Schmitt said the children have already been released from the hospital.
