Rockford Chamber hosts manufacturing expo

An expo on Rockford's manufacturing industry isn't just about the manufacturing of the present but the future.

"I can see myself doing this, you actually get to work with a fun product and get your hands dirty," said Will Puckett, a senior at Hononegah High School.

Puckett is one of dozens of middle school and high school students at the expo, interested in a future in manufacturing.

The expo, hosted by the Rockford Chamber of Commerce at Cliffbreakers Riverside Resort, brought in hundreds of people.

The chamber says manufacturing has always been a key employer for Rockford residents. Today, two our of every 10 jobs in the city are manufacturing jobs. The hope events like the expo will help that figure grow.

"We continue to try and encourage careers in manufacturing and the importance we have in our innovative skills that come from manufacturing so this is a critical component for our community if we expect to advance our local economy," said Einar Forsman, Rockford Chamber of Commerce President.
