An Army general who pleaded guilty to inappropriate relationships with three subordinates was reprimanded and fined a total of $20,000.
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sinclair had been accused of sexual assault during an affair with one subordinate, but those charges were dropped in favor of a plea deal. Sinclair pleaded guilty to several charges, including adultery, which is considered a crime in the military.
Sinclair's final sentence could not exceed the terms of the plea agreement, which stated the general could have served no more than 18 months in jail.
The case against the general, one of the highest-ranking military officials in the country, came at a time when the armed forces are trying to crack down on sexual assault in the ranks.
