City of Rockford seeking new electricity contract

The City of Rockford is in need of a new electricity supplier.

Our media partners at the Rockford Register Star reported Wednesday that Rockford's two-year contract to receive power through FirstEnergy Solutions is up in September. Officials say they'll start looking for a new supplier in April. They plan to ask several companies for proposals to see who has the best rates.

The Blackhawk Sierra Club has asked City officials to make it a requirement for a certain percentage of its energy to come from clean sources like wind or solar power.
