Discarded beer can leads to Beloit man's arrest

A Beloit man is behind bars after allegedly drinking at the scene of a crime.

Jason Ecklund, 34, was visited in the Rock County Jail by a detective earlier this month after DNA evidence found on a discarded beer bottle linked him to the scene of two burglaries. Ecklund was on probation for theft when a scooter was taken from a Beloit garage last August. The property owner found the beer bottle in his backyard afterward.

According to the Beloit Daily News, 18 fishing rods, a leaf blower, and some liquor were stolen from another Beloit garage a month later. A beer can was found near that location. Police say the DNA on that beer led them to Ecklund.

Ecklund is due in court March 26.
