Troopers with Illinois State Police District 16 will conduct an Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrol in Winnebago County this weekend.
Between March 21 and March 23, troopers will conduct saturation patrols focused on preventing, detecting, and taking action on impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or other drugs.
Police say an average of one alcohol-related traffic death occurs every 51 minutes in the United States. Alcohol and drug impairment are significant factors in nearly 40 percent of all fatal traffic crashes in Illinois alone.
The patrols are funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
