Officials believe the remains found Sunday belong to a girl reported missing over the weekend.
Officer Janel Sedevic said Monday police were conducting a death investigation into the disappearance of one-year-old Amierah Roberson from her South Side home. Originally, police said Roberson was with an adult who walked away for a short time and returned to find the child missing.
The results of an autopsy have not yet been released by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
The remains of a young girl were found over the weekend by someone walking near a wooded area by the Chicago suburb of Riverdale.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office says the girl appears to be about three years old. An autopsy is expected Monday.
The child's name has not been released and Riverdale police have teamed up with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force to investigate her death.
