Rock Valley College splits national title doubleheader

The Rock Valley College men's basketball team won its first NJCAA national championship Saturday night, defeating Caldwell Community College 79-69 at SUNY Sullivan in New York. RVC erased an eight-point halftime deficit, and never trailed after tying the game at 40 in the second half.

The Eagles finished the season with a 30-5 record, ending the year on a six-game winning streak. Nine players on the roster are local products from Boylan, Jefferson, East, Auburn, Byron, and Belvidere.

RVC's women's team was unable to complete a three-peat, losing to Northland in the NJCAA national title game just hours after the men's team played, 69-60. The loss snapped a 17-game winning streak, ending the Lady Eagles' season with a 28-6 record.

Congratulations to Coaches Craig Doty and Misty Opat on great basketball seasons at Rock Valley College.
