Four players from the greater Rockford area receive All-State accolades in the 1-A and 2-A classifications.
Leading the way on the 1-A team is Eastland senior standout Dalton Shaner. Shaner led the Cougars to a trip to the Super-Sectionals, where they lost to Mooseheart. He averaged about 25 points per game for the season, leading Eastland through a tough playoff run.
Dakota senior Brett Benning is also named to the 1-A first team. Benning averaged about 28 points per game for the season, leading Dakota to a regional title before losing to Shaner and Eastland in a tightly contested sectional game.
Elsewhere in 1-A, Aquin junior Aiden Chang gets All-State honorable mention. His Bulldogs were another victim of Shaner's Cougars in the playoffs. But Chang had a strong all-around season for another good Aquin squad.
In 2-A, Winnebago senior Ryan Swigart gets All-State honorable mention as well. He helped lead the Indians to a regional championship, and has been a key part of the program's success over the past few years.
