Rockford jail outreach program wants help from sheriff candidates


A program to help rehabilitate the people who end up in Winnebago County jails meets with the men vying to be the next sheriff. The Rockford Reach Out Jail Ministry hosting a talking session with the candidates. The group is worried about jail overcrowding and rehabilitating people once they go into prison. Their plan is create community partnerships.

"We can help them reintegrate successfully within the community if we work with them to help them find the services going back to prison," says George Hofstetter, Rockford ReachOut Jail Ministry, executive director.

The groups goal is to have 100 mentors working with jail inmates by 2015.
