Group hopes to spark interest in young generation to Transform Rockford

Posted: Updated:

A Rockford initiative nearly six years in the making aims to attract and keep younger generations in the area. The group could also play another role in transforming the Forest City.

We're talking about the IGNITE team, part of Rockford's Chamber of Commerce.

"Our whole mission is to work with people who live, work, learn and play in Rockford. Help them meet new people, find new jobs, give back to the community through various organizations." -says IGNITE Reach Committee Co-Chair Caitlin Ludwig.

Some of the more than 300 young IGNITE members grew up in the area, some are newcomers, but many plan to make their mark here permanently and help Transform Rockford.

IGNITE Reach Committee Co-Chair Derek Erwin says, "I think the biggest thing for Transform Rockford and the younger generation is there are a lot of great causes going on, people who have already done the work, they just need extra hands."

Ludwig adds, "With things like Transform Rockford it's important we get involved on the ground floor so that our voice can be heard and we're the ones helping build up the next generation that will come."

The IGNITE group hosts a Transform Rockford Visioning Session March 6th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Prairie Street Brewhouse.
