Firefighters from roughly half a dozen departments spend 3 hours in the freezing cold, battling a Lee County fire. The building is the former Sweet Dreams Motel, at the corner of Illinois 251 & U.S. 30. That's about 12 miles south of Rochelle.
Compton Fire Chief Chuck Montavon says it took 3 hours to get the 3-alarm blaze under control. The first call came in about 6:45pm Thursday evening.
Chief Montavon says it looks like a space heater in one section of the vacant hotel started the fire. The owner of the building lives there, in a section of the building that wasn't damaged.
No one was hurt.
